How much cake do you actually need? A 12-inch serving guide
Ordering too little cake is a party foul. Ordering way too much is a fridge problem. Here is the math for our standard three-layer, 12-inch cakes.
- Party slices: about 40 servings
- Generous dessert slices: about 24 to 30 servings
- Kids parties: plan on smaller slices and add cake pops
When to add cupcakes
If you have more than 40 guests, pair one cake with a couple dozen cupcakes in the same flavor. Everyone gets dessert, and serving goes twice as fast.
